WHAT IS A RESUME?
A document highlighting your strengths related to a field/job.
Your resume communicates your value to potential employers, and is an essential component of virtually any job search. The goal is to entice them to invite you for an interview. It often forms the first, and if poorly written, the last impression on an employer. Employers spend just a few seconds scanning your resume to decide whether to give a thorough read, so it is important to craft an attractive document that speaks to your strengths.
WHAT IS A COVER LETTER?
A cover letter details your fit for a particular position, focused on what you can do for the organization.
A cover letter should always accompany a resume, whether it is requested or not. It provides depth to your resume, highlighting your strongest qualifications FOR A PARTICULAR POSITION, and stressing how you can meet the employer's needs. An effective cover letter is well-written, captures the employer's attention, and ultimately convinces the employer you are a qualified candidate that deserves an interview.
As the cover letter is the employer's first glimpse at you as a candidate, it must be organized, professional, and 100% error-free. Additionally, your cover letter should always be original and tailored to the specific position. When you spend time crafting a customized letter, you will stand out from the pile of applicants.
